[12:55:18]<stevied>anyone reading this?
[13:16:59]<bgm>stevied: did you try increasing the memory limit of PHP?
[13:17:22]<bgm>is it a big site (modules / data)
[13:19:05]<mig5>unusual for a debian wheezy (why wheezy?) server to have a memory_limit of 192MB for php-cli
[13:19:11]<mig5>raise it to 256MB and move on
[13:19:20]<mig5>(and probably reinstall)
[13:37:54]<stevied>hi, yes, jacked it up to 512mb
[13:38:29]<stevied>still there?
[13:40:22]<stevied>there are not sites installed. all i did was install aegir
[13:43:01]<bgm>stevied: can you re-paste the error message, to be sure the limit is really 512 ?
[13:44:28]<stevied>sure, i'm reintalling aegir right now
[13:44:34]<stevied>will have it in a second
[13:45:37]* gusaus has quit (Quit: gusaus)
[13:46:12]<stevied>make that 2 minutes, i goofed up
[13:51:22]<stevied>almost there
[13:53:40]<stevied>here it is, bgm:
[13:53:58]<stevied> [Fri Dec 09 21:53:17 2011] [error] [client 10.0.1.42] PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 536870912 bytes exhausted (tried to al locate 523800 bytes) in /var/aegir/hostmaster-6.x-1.6/includes/database.mysqli.inc on line 41, referer: http://virtualdebian.prometheuslabor.com/user/1/edit
[13:54:58]<bgm>hmm, ok, that's weird..
[13:55:49]<bgm>stevied: might be worth installing php-xdebug and getting a backtrace
[13:56:03]<stevied>yeah, like I said, this is basically a fresh server recently upgraded from squeeze
[13:56:16]<bgm>sometimes these things happen when there's a chicken-and-egg in logging, or something like that
[13:56:33]<bgm>(i.e. something recursive happening)
[13:58:11]<stevied>k, i'm installing xdebug
[13:58:13]<bgm>maybe check the watchdog table manually to see if anything is there
[13:58:20]<stevied>been a while since i used it
[13:58:55]<bgm>usually just installing it will not do much, except print a backtrace when php fails
[14:01:23]<stevied>right
[14:01:31]<stevied>hmm, i don't see watchdog module
[14:01:38]<stevied>am I missing something?
[14:01:55]<bgm>in drupal?
[14:02:06]<stevied>yeah, on the modules page
[14:02:20]<bgm>it's in admin/reports/dblog
[14:02:30]<bgm>or check using mysql directly, or drush
[14:02:42]<stevied>ok, it's blank
[14:02:50]<stevied>that's what was throwing me
[14:03:00]<stevied>so nothing wrong there
[14:03:09]<bgm>i.e. no errors in the watchdog?

[14:17:07]<stevied>filter_list_format
[14:18:01]<stevied>ok, i'm pretty sure I know what's going on
[14:18:06]<stevied>i ran into this issue with drupal
[14:18:48]<stevied>i have my mysql auto_increment_incremetn setting in my my.cnf configuration file for mysql set to 4
[14:19:16]<stevied>and the auto_increment_offset setting set to 3
[14:19:52]<stevied>i'm going to comment these lines out and and reinstall aegir and see if that doesn't do the trick
[14:20:12]<bgm>that sounds pretty weird :)
[14:20:28]<bgm>you probably just need to re-import the DB for your site
[14:20:30]<stevied>but the code would have to be changed to account for servers that have their autoincrement setting != 1
[14:20:35]<bgm>although the DB of aegir itself might be weird too
[14:20:43]<stevied>i'm just going to reinstall
[14:20:44]<bgm>but your bug doesn't seem to be caused by aegir
[14:20:48]<stevied>will roll vm back
[14:21:04]<stevied>oh, yeah, right, caused by drupal
[14:21:38]<stevied>i brought this bug up years ago
[14:21:40]<stevied>still not fixed
[14:22:00]<stevied>it also accoutns for another bug I found and reported on
[14:22:11]<bgm>drupal kind of assumes a few things with IDs sometimes.. like that UID = 1 is the superadmin
[14:22:21]<stevied>right
[14:24:13]<stevied>it's weird that this bug causes an out of memory issue, that never happened to me before
[14:24:19]<stevied>so i just assumed it was aegir
[14:24:57]<bgm>drupal is a world full of wonders :)
[14:25:42]<stevied>everyone has a love-hate relationship with it
[14:25:50]<stevied>you work for koumbit?
[14:25:57]<stevied>i was in touch with you guys a few years back
[14:26:16]<stevied>talking about aegir back then. 2008
[14:26:34]<stevied>i'm just getting around to trying it out
[14:26:52]<bgm>i'm on other projects now, but yep, used to work for koumbit
[14:27:43]<bgm>cool to see you are trying out aegir :)
[14:28:01]* kvanderw has quit (Quit: Get MacIrssi - http://www.sysctl.co.uk/projects/macirssi/)
[14:28:29]<stevied>yeah, i'm finally setting to work on something I've wanted to do: an open source turnkey solution for unions
[14:30:33]<bgm>i hope it works out, it would make a great case study for aegir :)
[14:30:55]<stevied>me too. i've started pouring my heart into it
[14:31:16]<stevied>workign long hours again :)
[14:31:43]<bgm>i see :)
[14:31:50]<bgm>(although don'T ask why i'm on irc at this hour ;)
[14:33:35]<stevied>dammit, forgot to restart mysql
[14:33:41]<stevied>got to start over :(
[14:40:08]<stevied>hooray. that fixed it
[14:40:31]<stevied>i'll report my findings
[14:40:42]<stevied>hopefully save someone else 4 hours of heartache :)
[14:40:42]<bgm>:)
[14:43:55]<stevied>thansk for the debug suggestion
[14:44:03]<stevied>that put me n the right path
[14:44:39]* gerardroos has quit (Quit: Textual IRC Client: http://www.textualapp.com/)
[14:44:39]<stevied>this leads me to my next question
[14:44:53]<stevied>i basically have to fork drupal to fix this.
[14:45:12]<stevied>how do I handle that with aegir and still keep drupal up to date?
[14:45:43]<bgm>the underlying issue is not clear to me, but using drush_make, you can apply patches on your build automatically
[14:46:09]<bgm>this way everytime you build a new platform it will be patched
[14:46:20]<bgm>koumbit uses that, for example, to patch the robots.txt automatically
[14:46:57]<stevied>ok
[14:47:45]<stevied>i know the patch to apply to fix this issue, just unclear on how to automate it. I will look up drush_make
[14:48:36]<bgm>https://drupal.org/project/kplatforms
[14:48:44]<bgm>might be overkill, but those are koumbit's makefiles
[14:49:10]<bgm>does a bunch of stuff like get the libraries and everything necessary for those pesky wygiwyg modules
[14:49:53]<bgm>otherwise you can find simple examples pretty much everywhere, probably better to start with that :)
