[07:52:44]<izmeez>hello, i am using aegir for drupal 6 platforms and trying to mimic a live site setup with the files directory in http://example.com/files/[site-abbrev]. On a public file system I am having trouble trying to directly access a file with a url http://example.com/files/[site-abbrev]/somefile.png and get a page not file. I have symlinks and local.settings.php appparantly working. I have no difficulty with a url like http://example.com/html/[site-abbrev]/somefile.pn

[09:16:20]<izmeez>I have an aegir platform and have added a "files" symlink to the platform itself so "files" appears as a folder on the same level as the drupal folders and sites

[09:21:03]<izmeez>if standalone drupal install is brought into a multisite to avoid filenames in database being /sites/default/files going to /sites/[sitename]/files
[09:22:16]<izmeez>to avoid this problem using procedure of always having in /files/[site-abbrev] which will work regardless of single install or multisite install
[09:23:28]<izmeez>trying to replicate this on aegir d6 with public files
[09:24:35]<izmeez>to allow moving database back and forth between single and multisite install
[09:25:23]<izmeez>and to avoid having drupal path to files being long, http://example.com/sites/example.com/files

[09:28:38]<izmeez>Let me ask, if using aegir defaults, d6 platform, with site example.com, upload file then check database the files table show as "sites/example.com/files/somefile.ext
[09:29:49]<mig5>yes. and aegir also inserts a rewrite rule into the vhost config so that /files maps to sites/example.com/files

[10:00:26]<izmeez>in local.settings.php file_directory_path = files/[site-abbrev] but I must have a symlink in sites/example.com/files even if that is a symlink; having the files symlink off the platform root fails.
[10:02:20]<izmeez>so the beviour is correct http://example.com/files/[site-abbrev]/somefile.txt works but is dependent on a files symlink in sites/example.com/'files'
