[10:27:11]<halcyonCorsair>omega8cc: pin
[10:27:14]<halcyonCorsair>*ping
[10:28:34]<omega8cc>halcyonCorsair: pong
[10:28:57]<halcyonCorsair>omega8cc: have you played with anarcat's pack module yet?
[10:29:33]<omega8cc>no
[10:30:32]<omega8cc>halcyonCorsair: why?
[10:31:08]<halcyonCorsair>omega8cc: getting a weird case where for one site i'm getting a 403 forbidden on a site, yet nothing useful in any logs, and i'm trying to debug
[10:31:38]<omega8cc>with nginx?
[10:32:31]<omega8cc>403 often means broken perms on settings.php
[10:33:14]<omega8cc>the redirect to install etc
[10:33:18]<omega8cc>then*
[10:34:28]<halcyonCorsair>settings.php perms appear to be ok
[10:34:42]<halcyonCorsair>i have seen the install.php redirect before, but it's not happening on *this* site
[10:35:06]<halcyonCorsair>ah, another thing i'm getting: 2012/04/03 12:29:58 [emerg] 8949#0: "map_hash_bucket_size" directive is duplicate in /etc/nginx/conf.d/aegir.conf:43
[10:35:59]* boztek has quit (Quit: Computer has gone to sleep.)
[10:39:29]* ghankstef has quit (Quit: ghankstef)
[10:41:12]<mig5>you probably have some settings in /etc/nginx/nginx.conf that are duplicate
[10:43:01]<halcyonCorsair>mig5: nope, nothing there
[10:53:33]* boztek has joined #aegir
[11:02:54]<omega8cc>map_hash_bucket_size duplicate? hmm
[11:03:49]<omega8cc>it never comes with stock nginx and we use it only once
[11:05:30]* obicke has quit (Ping timeout: 244 seconds)
[11:08:04]<mig5>it came with stock nginx on my install.
[11:08:07]<mig5>had the same issue.
[11:08:14]<mig5>stock nginx from dotdeb.org anyway.
[11:08:48]<mig5>duplicate can only mean one thing: duplicate. so have a recursive grep for map_hash_bucket_size in /etc/nginx and /var/aegir/config and find where the duplicate is
[11:11:31]* boztek has quit (Quit: Computer has gone to sleep.)
[11:13:04]* anarcat waves hi

[11:28:39]* Harley has joined #aegir
[11:32:27]* Deciphered has quit (Remote host closed the connection)
[11:33:01]<halcyonCorsair>mig5: truly there seems to be nothing :\
[11:33:10]<halcyonCorsair>i'm wondering at the context of the directive
[11:33:15]<halcyonCorsair>anarcat: still here?
[11:34:07]* purencool has joined #aegir
[11:34:10]* Deciphered has joined #aegir
[11:34:15]<anarcat>halcyonCorsair: kind of
[11:37:29]<halcyonCorsair>anarcat: getting unexpected behaviour with the pack module
[11:37:48]<anarcat>i saw that
[11:37:53]<anarcat>read the backlog
[11:37:56]<anarcat>i am not sure what to tell you
[11:38:08]<anarcat>the configs just get synced to the remote server, nothing special there
[11:38:23]<anarcat>and since you use nginx and i'm not familiar with that, i am not sure i can help you
[11:38:30]<anarcat>if this was apache, i would tell you to look in error.log
[11:38:42]<halcyonCorsair>i'm wondering how much is pack, and how much is 1.6 vs 1.7
[11:38:51]<halcyonCorsair>anarcat: pack should work with 1.6, yes?
[11:38:52]* Deciphered has quit (Remote host closed the connection)
[11:39:02]<anarcat>it should
[11:39:10]<anarcat>i coded it for 1.6
[11:39:15]<anarcat>and it's shipped with 1.7, iirc
[11:39:32]* Deciphered has joined #aegir
[11:41:07]<halcyonCorsair>anarcat: works on the aegir server itself, but not one of the other slaves
[11:44:44]* Harley has quit (Remote host closed the connection)
[11:45:02]<halcyonCorsair>oh great...after reverifying a bunch of stuff, no go there either
[11:45:47]<anarcat>so you have a problem with nginx, not packÉ
[11:46:03]<halcyonCorsair>possibly
[11:46:36]<halcyonCorsair>anarcat: the issue with pack was the weird verification behaviour, but....i'll track down this issue first and get back to you
[11:49:42]* univate has quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
[11:50:33]* univate has joined #aegir
[11:53:57]<omega8cc>mig5: ah, dotdeb.org is not a stock nginx, but please open an issue about it, we may need to add some check before writing map_hash_bucket_size, as we did for other stuff before
[11:53:58]* SynchroM has quit (Quit: SynchroM)
[11:56:08]* boztek has joined #aegir
[11:59:50]<halcyonCorsair>omega8cc: could you show me what your nginx.conf looks like?
[12:02:54]<omega8cc>https://gist.github.com/2288765
[12:03:43]<omega8cc>this is standard config created on squeeze when you install it with apt
[12:03:59]<omega8cc>just workers modified
[12:04:13]* obicke has joined #aegir
[12:04:40]* jerryitt has quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
[12:05:07]<halcyonCorsair>omega8cc: mig5: found it -- if you *use* map before you define map_hash_bucket_size it throws a wobbly, but no helpful error messages :(
[12:06:44]<omega8cc>not sure what you mean, map_hash_bucket_size is defined at the top config
[12:07:12]<omega8cc>so you have modified config?
[12:07:31]<omega8cc>halcyonCorsair: ^^
[12:08:15]* josh_k has joined #aegir
[12:08:33]<omega8cc>ah!
[12:09:10]<omega8cc>you mean fastcgi_param USER_DEVICE $device; ?
[12:09:21]<halcyonCorsair>omega8cc: the config you get from different packages looks a little different
[12:09:59]* josh_k has quit (Client Quit)
[12:11:41]* realityloop has joined #aegir
[12:11:53]<omega8cc>halcyonCorsair: anyway, please open an issue as I have no idea why it is a problem, as it works fine on on all Debian and Ubuntu versions we use for testing and there were no issues, but I didn't test third party packages

[12:27:23]<orangey>hello all
[12:27:47]<orangey>any idea why a site might go to the 'install page' when it *was* working before a migration (6.22 -> 6.25)?

[13:00:10]<ergonlogic>orangey: have you restarted apache recently?
[13:00:20]<orangey>ergonlogic: yeah, many times
[13:00:26]<orangey>i've been playing with almost every setting
[13:01:56]<ergonlogic>and it verifies ok?
[13:02:42]<orangey>yeah
[13:03:44]<orangey>just a sec.
[13:03:54]<orangey>migrated to 7.x (it was 6.25) and gonna see if that fixes anything
[13:04:41]<orangey>verifies right, but still doesn't work
[13:04:47]<orangey>about 15 sites migrated clean
[13:04:51]<orangey>not sure what happened t othis one
[13:05:00]<orangey>and, honestly, no idea how to troubleshoot it
[13:05:19]* drakythe has quit (Quit: KVIrc 4.0.4 Insomnia http://www.kvirc.net/)
[13:06:06]<halcyonCorsair>orangey: what is the error you get again?
[13:06:30]<orangey>halcyonCorsair: i get the install page
[13:06:46]<orangey>it appears to go to default
[13:06:56]<orangey>despite the vconf.d file looking good (identical to others)
[13:07:09]<orangey>and there's certainly a proper link in sites
[13:07:10]<halcyonCorsair>orangey: just a check, from the cmdline, can you: drush @that.site.url sqlc
[13:07:10]<halcyonCorsair>etc
[13:07:22]<orangey>what's sqlc?
[13:07:31]<halcyonCorsair>sql console
[13:07:53]<halcyonCorsair>orangey: also, are the permissions on the site's settings.php ok?
[13:08:03]<orangey>halcyonCorsair: yes to sqlc
[13:08:06]<halcyonCorsair>orangey: you could try restoring a backup of the site to a new site
[13:08:25]<halcyonCorsair>orangey: what about as the www-data (or web) user instead of the aegir user?
[13:09:08]* zombiebeard has joined #aegir

[13:13:53]<orangey>as it happens, I don't even know which vhost file it's tapping in the end.
[13:14:11]<orangey>when I edit the vhost file to try to make it the wrong one, that install file is still accessible
[13:14:31]<halcyonCorsair>orangey: not sure re: apache sorry
[13:15:20]<orangey>halcyonCorsair: any idea re: troubleshooting further?
[13:15:50]<halcyonCorsair>orangey: restore a backup to a different url, and try again?
[13:17:08]<orangey>hm. OK. will try
[13:18:15]<orangey>how do I restore a backup? just hit the restore button?
[13:18:39]<orangey>will that restore back to the old platform too?
[13:26:13]<halcyonCorsair>umm, one moment
[13:27:50]<orangey>it's an interesting thing about moving to aegir
[13:27:59]<orangey>after 2 decades of apache, I have no idea how to do the most basic things anymore
[13:28:13]<orangey>like discover where the site is coming from, or how to redirect it
[13:32:39]<realityloop>orangey: aegir != nginx though
[13:32:48]<orangey>?
[13:32:59]<realityloop>unless you are using Barracuda, the default installation uses Apache
[13:33:10]<realityloop>all the vhosts are there to look at
[13:38:40]* gusaus has quit (Quit: gusaus)
[13:41:00]<halcyonCorsair>orangey: i figured out how to restore backups from the cmdline, but i can't recall off the top of my head what i did
[13:41:13]<orangey>hehehehe
[13:41:24]<orangey>realityloop: I'm using apache
[13:41:56]<realityloop>orangey: ah.. I misinterpreted your earlier message then

[13:45:59]* gandhiano has quit (Ping timeout: 245 seconds)
[13:56:53]<orangey>realityloop: no, I was just saying that I felt quite capable with apache before
[13:56:55]<orangey>but now, no longer
[13:57:12]<orangey>since aegir takes over some functions and I can't quite tell where to intercept it
[13:57:50]<realityloop>orangey: be careful if you were thinking of editing the vhosts, they get overwritten regularly by Aegir
[13:57:58]<orangey>realityloop: I know
[13:58:10]<orangey>realityloop: but the fact is that the vhosts file for the site isn't even getting read
[13:58:16]<orangey>when I change it (try to break it), it does nothing
[13:58:36]<realityloop>orangey: Hrm.. you symlinked it to regular hosts dir didn't you?
[13:58:48]<orangey>realityloop: ?
[13:58:59]<realityloop>orangey: how did you install Aegir?
[13:59:19]<orangey>not 100% sure, but I think through a deb package
[13:59:22]<orangey>I forget, it was some time ago
[13:59:34]<orangey>either via debian's apt-get or a downloaded package
[13:59:40]<realityloop>orangey: ah.. I've only ever done it manually or using Barracuda
[13:59:46]<orangey>what's barracuda?
[14:00:00]<realityloop>orangey: http://drupal.org/project/barracuda
[14:00:28]<orangey>actually, I suspect this is how it went
[14:00:38]<orangey>I vaguely recall
[14:00:46]<orangey>anyway, not sure what difference it makes at this point
[14:02:09]<realityloop>orangey: just that if you'd done it manually you may have missed a step.. but using teh deb it should have done everything for you
[14:02:21]<orangey>this has been working for months
[14:02:26]<realityloop>ah
[14:02:27]<orangey>through many migrations
[14:03:56]<orangey>which is the default vhost file?
[14:04:33]<orangey>aha. found the problem
[14:04:43]<orangey>another site had the same servername.. ???

[01:53:21]<storyleader>Hi, this seems like a simple problem, but I can't find a solution on the Aegir community site or elsewhere. I want to give someone else full admin privileges on my Aegir install, including the ability to create new sites. I created a role within the Aegir GUI for "Aegir admin," and checked all the permissions boxes. I also made the new user an Aegir client. But, when trying to create a new site from the GUI, the new user get
[01:53:21]<storyleader>error message, ""Your user is not associated with any clients so you are not allowed to create new sites". What am I missing here?
[01:57:04]<ergonlogic>storyleader: it looks like you need to associate the user with a client
[01:57:22]<ergonlogic>storyleader: which is different from assigning them the 'client' role
[01:58:55]<ergonlogic>shrop: would love your feedback on the aegir-up as a drush extension :)
[01:59:52]<ergonlogic>storyleader: you probably want to assign the new user to the 'admin' client
[02:02:16]<mvc>EclipseGc: yes, i was. i was trying to use uuid features, but finally decided it was a bit of a dead end :/
[02:02:30]<EclipseGc>mvc: want to see my solution?
[02:02:39]<ergonlogic>storyleader: node/1/edit is the only way I know how to do so on a default Aegir.
[02:03:05]<mvc>EclipseGc: sure! fwiw i also tried the migrate module and left some code in the issue queue someplace which did most of the job.
[02:03:18]<EclipseGc>mvc: yeah I'm using migrate
[02:04:00]<mvc>were you able to use my patch?
[02:04:22]<EclipseGc>mvc: no, you were doing uuid stuff
[02:04:26]<EclipseGc>mvc: and I prefer to keep the nids
[02:04:39]<EclipseGc>mvc: so, a quick note about what I'm pasting here
[02:05:09]<EclipseGc>mvc: I have a NodeMigration abstract that does a bunch of setup to make node migrations dead simple (once you understand the abstract)
[02:05:52]<EclipseGc>mvc: and then I have a book abstract as well with 2 different implementations. 1 class migrates all books (except 1) via some smart sorting that I know works as long as no one has screwed with the outline
[02:06:09]<EclipseGc>mvc: the other is my fix for when someone's screwed with the outline (i.e. I manually tell it what order to import in)
[02:06:11]<EclipseGc>mvc: http://pastebin.com/DVqEKQMg
[02:07:34]<mvc>EclipseGc: hmm, interesting. preserving nid's didn't work in my use case, though (making it a harder problem)
[02:07:47]* kylemathews has joined #aegir
[02:07:51]<EclipseGc>mvc: why not?
[02:08:04]<mvc>i was trying to do two-way sync with two authoritative sources, updating whichever was older
[02:08:17]<EclipseGc>mvc: wow, no thanks
[02:08:17]<EclipseGc>lol
[02:08:42]<EclipseGc>mvc: that's definitely an edge case though
[02:08:46]<mvc>and the client's sites were not online so i couldn't just push changes as they happened (they were site-in-a-box installations in remote villages)
[02:08:53]<EclipseGc>mvc: I think this would be pretty close to what most people migrating book would need
[02:09:06]* EclipseGc nods
[02:09:08]<mvc>no kidding. that's why i gave up and told the client we'd just do one way sync
[02:09:20]<mvc>so now we just copy db dumps, much easier
[02:09:24]<EclipseGc>mvc: haha
[02:09:26]<EclipseGc>indeed
[02:09:40]<EclipseGc>mvc: though if you're doing that, then this solution could be somewhat helpful for that case too
[02:09:47]* ratioweb has joined #aegir
[02:09:55]<EclipseGc>but if you've gotten them to accept db dumps… no real need
[02:09:55]<mvc>EclipseGc: yeah, your code looks useful
[02:10:14]<mvc>you should put that up somewhere in the migrate handbook recipes section
[02:10:21]<EclipseGc>mvc: NodesBook102Migration is especially interesting imo
[02:10:42]<EclipseGc>it's a bit of an abuse of orderBy() but w/e
[02:10:44]<mvc>yeah, i was relying on sorting books when exporting via a view
[02:10:54]<EclipseGc>yeah, you can't do that actually
[02:11:08]<EclipseGc>you can end up with situations where you need stubs, and I just didn't have time to learn that and already had this solution
[02:11:27]<mvc>i didn't need stubs in my specific case
[02:11:43]<EclipseGc>yeah, but if someone screws with the book outline, you will
[02:11:44]<mvc>and yes, using stubs would be the correct solution -- but that can wait for the next geek
[02:11:55]<EclipseGc>mvc: that was basically my answer too
[02:12:02]<mvc>it's a good answer :)
[02:12:54]<EclipseGc>mvc: though the sorts I chose to use here should work in all cases except the outline changes, so if someone wanted to fix the issue of using stubs there, this could be a generic book migrate solution
