[01:01:41]<newthinking>I'm a first time Admin of aegir 3.8 for a company. Install fails @ hostmaster module with "Could not find the alias @hostmaster " searched Google already and stumbled about "https://aegir.readthedocs.io/en/latest/release-notes/3.8/#need-help" There is a issue with the install module of "hostmaster" (12 days old) is there a solution in sight?
[01:28:18]<viashimo>are you doing a manual install, using a debian package, other?
[01:30:31]<newthinking>Hi viashimo - No I tried the debian 8 package from aegir's stable repo.
[01:33:55]<viashimo>newthinking: okay. you can run "DPKG_DEBUG=developer apt-get install aegir3" to get more verbose output
[01:35:24]<newthinking>I did already but got not more information than before.
[01:35:51]<viashimo>the process doesn't stop at the first error necessarily, if you go up in the output are there other messages?
[01:36:17]<newthinking>Here ere the debug lines from the start of the problematic block: + echo Enabling hosting-queued daemon Enabling hosting-queued daemon + su -s /bin/sh aegir -c drush @hostmaster pm-enable -y hosting_queued Could not find the alias @hostmaster [error] dpkg: error processing package aegir3-hostmaster (--configure): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 dpkg: depe
[01:38:40]<viashimo>newthinking: are you sure there are no other error messages output during the process?
[01:40:14]<newthinking>Nioo everything is OK except a warning: " Multi-byte UTF-8 for Drupal 7 is not supported on your system. "
[01:40:28]<newthinking>which is not a problem ...
[01:41:54]<viashimo>does the site exist in the hostmaster plaform? eg. /var/aegir/hostmaster-7.x-3.8/sites/frontend.url
[01:42:12]<newthinking>I scrolled through the setup process again and didn't find any errors or warnings, except the last one that let the setup stop..
[01:42:56]<newthinking>I'll post the output again (have noticed my last cut&paste got truncated)
[01:44:02]<viashimo>you could put it in a pastebin
[01:46:15]<newthinking>OK. I'll just nned a moment to find a open pastebin..
[01:47:59]<newthinking>Here is the pastebin of the debugging: https://0bin.net/paste/KbFm97RdcbXjU-jv#MruEIVcBwKUjaC5h3wsk+JfXcMHWSMIi...
[01:52:23]<viashimo>aight. is the hostmaster site installed in the platform?
[01:54:10]<newthinking>Your last question: "does the site exist in the hostmaster plaform? eg. /var/aegir/hostmaster-7.x-3.8/sites/frontend.url" No, it was a clean install.
[01:55:54]<viashimo>I mean does it currently exist, rather than did it exist before
[01:55:59]<newthinking>Oh good... "Is the hostmaster site installed in your platform" - question ... I just ran the setup "apt-get install aegir3" as a total noob (but read the prerequisites)
[01:56:36]<newthinking>"I mean does it currently exist, rather than did it exist before"? Wait, I'll check it...
[02:01:56]<newthinking>No there are 3 directories after the failed setup under /var/aegir: ./backups ./clients ./config That's it...
[02:04:28]<newthinking>I did a complete removal of aegir3 (apt --purge) and deleted the /var/aegir/ dir's and then started the setup again. It asks me for the mysql -root password and then it stops with the mentioned output of the former pastebin...
[02:09:52]<newthinking>Does the "aegir3-hostmaster" install routine read from a "aegir" database that's being installed in a former setup step? I ask, because I'm being asked for mysql db- Pass and no "new" "aegir" db is being created.abase
[02:12:30]<newthinking>Setup tells me that the Package "aegir3-hostmaster is not configured yet." (Needs to be done for further steps) and here in this table: Package aegir3-hostmaster is not configured yet. Is a open bug with exact this module... Maybe I'll have to wait until the bug gets fixed..
[02:14:29]<newthinking>Setup tells me that the Package "aegir3-hostmaster is not configured yet." (Needs to be done for further steps) and here: - https://aegir.readthedocs.io/en/latest/release-notes/3.8/#need-help%22 - in the table: Package aegir3-hostmaster is not configured yet. Is a open bug with exact this module... Maybe I'll have to wait until the bug gets fixed..
[02:16:09]<newthinking>I'm sorry for the messy mesages... I'll try again...
[02:16:18]<viashimo>all good, I understand
[02:17:24]<newthinking>So... Setup stops with the message: - aegir3 depends on aegir3-hostmaster (>= 3.8); however: Package aegir3-hostmaster is not configured yet. -
[02:17:29]<viashimo>I would imagine the build badge tracks the head of one of the branches, rather than the commit tagged with 3.8 so I'm not sure that's the thing to look at
[02:17:42]<viashimo>the mysql user and password you enter, those exist right?
[02:18:05]<viashimo>from what you're saying it sounds like the package hasn't been able to actually install the drupal instance that the hostmaster frontend will run in
[02:18:48]<newthinking>It asks me for the mysql root user's pass and I enetered it (tried several times no; in case I misspelled)
[02:19:25]<viashimo>and to confirm, if you run mysql -u root -p, and enter your password you're able to log in?\
[02:20:40]<newthinking>Yes , login as root user with that pass works fine...
[02:21:45]<newthinking>What if that would not work? Because my password is about 1 meter long (Maybe too long for the php variable that stores it???)
[02:24:44]<newthinking>Don't you think it is related to the bug described in the table here: --- https://aegir.readthedocs.io/en/latest/release-notes/3.8/#need-help%22 --- (Project hostmaster line)
[02:25:42]<viashimo>newthinking: unlikely, unless you are using the unstable repository perhaps ?
[02:26:12]<newthinking>No I installed from stable repo...
[02:27:12]<viashimo>ok. a few things to check: which version of php you're running, that you have all the php libraries that drupal 7 needs (see https://www.drupal.org/docs/7/system-requirements/php )
[02:28:23]<newthinking>It's php7 and I'll check the necessary module... Needs some minutes...
[02:29:59]<viashimo>I recall seeing some conversation that php7 wasn't fully supported yet
[02:31:54]<viashimo>I don't know the exact status though.
[02:32:42]<newthinking>Of course I could install php5.x instead... But Version 5 or 7 should not make the difference when installing the packages?
[02:33:50]<viashimo>the package is installing drush, using that to create a drupal site for the hostmaster, and so on
[02:34:04]<viashimo>and all that runs on php
[02:39:19]<newthinking>Ah OK. So maybe I should try to install a single Drupal 8 with php 7 or 5.x until it works and learn from that process first?
