[01:03:50]<jonpugh[m]>hey all, I've only skimmed the logs from yesterday, but here are my high level thoughts...
[01:04:02]<jonpugh[m]>> helmo: ... but I see my main role in maintaining 3.x/4.x as long as we need to and pave the migration path
[01:05:17]<jonpugh[m]>I think we should assign branch maintainers like drupal did. Helmo is clearly 3.x, I can take 4.x, and ergonlogic can take 5.x?
[01:06:28]<jonpugh[m]>provision 4.x could be a very quick port if we include drush 8.x in composer. I think I might be able to utilize all existing code with a symfony console just as a wrapper.
[01:07:19]<jonpugh[m]>composer require drush/drush would enable us to include our own specific version of drush in oprovision itself
[01:10:13]<jonpugh[m]>Most everything runs on drush hooks, so if we can keep drush included where we need it , we won't have to rewrite much at all.
[01:10:50]<jonpugh[m]>so provision would include it's own drush for itself and pre-drush-9 sites, and we can rewrite provision_backend_invoke() to call site-local-drush or whatever else for the rest.
[01:17:12]<jonpugh[m]>As for Aegir NG, I've got some slightly different ideas on how to put it all together, but I don't want to slow down anyone else that's ready to go and build something. If we separate the efforts between 3.x 4.x and 5, than I'm totally fine with ergonlogic[m] building whatever he sees fit. If I have authority to continue on the 4.x branch to build an incrementally upgradable Aegir, then I'm happy to put my stamp of
[01:17:12]<jonpugh[m]>approval on the NG plan and stay out of it for the time being :)

[02:46:36]<colan>jonpugh: I'm sure that any feedback you have on NG would be appreciated. Now's the time for us to figure it out.
[02:47:10]<colan>The branch plan makes sense to me, BTW.
