[03:18:06]<jacobembree>Is there a way for me to include an additional make file for custom modules to be included in the hostmaster platform?
[03:18:06]<jacobembree>I use the Debian package to install Aegir. After adding modules to the hostmaster platform I'd like them to be included in updated hostmaster platforms when I upgrade the Debian package.
[03:43:40]<ergonlogic[m]>jacobembree: yes, there is. Let me find the docs for that
[03:44:13]<ergonlogic[m]>jacobembree: here it is: http://docs.aegirproject.org/en/3.x/install/#711-custom-make-files
[03:47:18]* ergonlogic[m] just posted an updated website for Aegir to http://www2.aegirproject.org. Feedback welcome.
[03:47:24]<anarcat>hello ergonlogic[m]
[03:47:28]<anarcat>btw, i'm at Kubecon in austin
[03:47:31]<anarcat>reporting for LWN
[03:47:40]<anarcat>so if you're curious about anything you think should be covered, i'm all ears
[03:47:46]<ergonlogic[m]>anarcat: oh, great!
[03:47:49]<anarcat>4000 people here, kind of crazy
[03:48:08]<ergonlogic[m]>just to be clear, that's Kubernetes?
[03:48:16]<jacobembree>Thanks, ergonlogic.
[03:49:01]<anarcat>yes, kubernetes and the CNCF (Cloud Native Computing Foundation)
[03:49:06]<anarcat>it's crazy how fast that shit is moving
[03:49:21]<anarcat>see if you can figure out how many of those you actually even heard of: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/cncf/landscape/master/landscape/CloudN...
[03:49:23]<anarcat>it's insane
[03:49:25]<ergonlogic[m]>anarcat: Helm is of particular interest to me, as it's essentially a packaging system for Kubernetes. So anything you can find out aboutit would be great
[03:49:41]<anarcat>right
[03:50:00]<anarcat>there are only two helm talks
[03:50:02]<anarcat>https://kccncna17.sched.com/event/CU6D/building-helm-charts-from-the-gro...
[03:50:06]<anarcat>https://kccncna17.sched.com/event/CU70/helm-chart-patterns-i-vic-iglesia...
[03:50:14]<ergonlogic[m]>also, Prometheus looks really good too
[03:50:46]<anarcat>there was a Sysadvent article about helm - but frankly, i'm not sure i see the point so much
[03:50:55]<anarcat>prometheus, however, is another story
[03:51:15]<anarcat>i'll probably try to write a piece on prom and also that kata containers stuff that just came out
[03:51:19]<ergonlogic[m]>Kubernetes introduced the idea of "Pets" last year, that iirc, are intended to handle stateful apps better
[03:51:40]<ergonlogic[m]>kata containers?
[03:52:36]<anarcat>yeah, mix bw containers and VMs
[03:52:41]<ergonlogic[m]>oh, also `rkt` looks like a much more Unix-y replacement for Docker. So that's also of interest
[03:52:46]<anarcat>https://katacontainers.io
[03:53:02]<anarcat>yeah, i have trouble picking things out - but i think k8s uses parts of rkt now no?
[03:53:15]<anarcat>alright, gtg - keep suggestions coming
[03:53:47]<ergonlogic[m]>K8s intends to support rkt, but was alpha/beta last time I looked
[03:54:16]<ergonlogic[m]>anarcat: make sure to post links to any articles you publish to this channel, ok? I'm sure they'll be of interest to many
[03:56:54]* sensespidey[m] cheers on anarcat :)
[03:59:24]<anarcat>of course
[04:29:30]* hefring has joined #aegir
[04:31:27]<ergonlogic[m]>anarcat: re "Goodbye Drupal", https://drutopia.org/ may be of interest
[04:31:43]<anarcat>i should've made a whole article about that
[04:47:51]<ergonlogic[m]>does anyone know how to work around gitlab pages' insistence on publishing under https?
[04:55:53]<sensespidey[m]>anarcat: done! I was looking for something to subscribe to since I learned Linux Journal tanked :)

[06:22:36]* ergonlogic[m] manually generated an LE cert so that https://www2.aegirproject.org will work
[06:26:58]<colan>ergonlogic: that site is looking amazing!
[06:27:43]<ergonlogic[m]>Thanks, colan !
[06:28:30]<viashimo>nice site!
[06:28:33]<ergonlogic[m]>I'd like to switch over DNS later today, so as to have it ready for tomorrow's 10-year anniversary
[06:28:47]<ergonlogic[m]>Hugo FTW!
[06:28:47]<viashimo>really? it's 10 yrs old?
[06:28:49]<viashimo>nice
[06:29:18]<viashimo>ergonlogic[m]: hugo, managed in aegir? ;)
[06:29:28]<ergonlogic[m]>viashimo: yep, first commit dates back to Dec 7, 2007
[06:29:36]<ergonlogic[m]>no, not yet ;)
[06:29:59]<ergonlogic[m]>currently, this site is hosted on GitLab Pages
[06:30:41]<ergonlogic[m]>Hugo is the initial non-CMS application I'd like to support on Aegir5, though
[06:31:04]<ergonlogic[m]>(then, eventually, GitLab too)
[06:33:10]<viashimo>hmm, like provision (if that's the right word) gitlab through aegir?
[06:36:12]<colan>I've been sending folks a link to the wikipedia page, instead of the project page. Now I won't have to do that anymore. yay.
[06:37:29]<colan>This was mostly b/c WP has one screenshot, at least.
[06:39:07]<colan>That page is farily stubby, so if anyone feels like helping expand it, please jump in. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aegir_Hosting_System
[06:53:34]* jacobembree has left #aegir ()
[06:56:23]<anarcat>finally works, nice! :)
[06:56:28]<anarcat>i mean the site, sorry
[06:58:49]<ergonlogic[m]>viashimo: yes, provisioning GitLab in Aegir. It's not right around the corner, but Aegir 5 should allow something like that.
[07:00:35]<ergonlogic[m]>anarcat: it seems to have had something to do with the CNAME and HTTPS. So I generated an LE cert and switched to using an A record
[07:01:11]<ergonlogic[m]>colan: yeah, I've been pointing people towards the docs site.
[07:03:13]<ergonlogic[m]>helmo42: I *think* you've been most active in updating `www.aegirproject.org`, especially the donate page, right? Can you take a look at http://www2.aegirproject.org? Once I add a "Support" section, do you see any reason not to cut over to it?
[07:03:48]<ergonlogic[m]>It's open to editing by any of the core team too, of course
[07:06:05]<jonpugh1>Can we link to the github organization as well as gitlab? And maybe a "Community" section with links to IRC /twitter might be nice
[07:09:05]<helmo42[m]1>I'll have a look tomorrow morning
