[01:36:02]<colan>ergonlogic: want me to create an account for you on my site so you can do it, or should i just repost as me?
[01:36:27]<ergonlogic[m]>go ahead and re-post
[01:36:30]<colan>ok
[01:36:47]<ergonlogic[m]>also, helmo created: https://gitlab.com/aegir/www.aegirproject.org/issues/10
[01:37:05]<ergonlogic[m]>we pretty much just need a 2nd post
[01:37:19]<ergonlogic[m]>so, I'll start drafting one about Aegir 5
[01:38:08]<colan>ergonlogic: yeah, was thinking of that, but we'd need 3 posts on there. i could republish mine, maybe stephen's too? would make 3, or 4 with your NG one.
[01:38:42]<ergonlogic[m]>The Planet req's state a minimum of 2 posts
[01:39:01]<colan>oh, they must have reduced it. was 3 for me.
[01:39:10]<ergonlogic[m]>yeah, I recall that too
[01:40:07]<ergonlogic[m]>being statically generated, the site doesn't support comments natively. Should we consider something like Disqus?
[01:40:54]<colan>ergonlogic: might want to save the aegirng post so it'll actually get on planet. so use one of our other ones to get on there?
[01:41:06]<sensespidey[m]>where's the listing of external blog posts re: aegir turning 10, atm?
[01:41:06]<colan>if that's doable, makes sense.
[01:41:27]<ergonlogic[m]>just in my post from yesterday, afaik
[01:41:34]<sensespidey[m]>oh wait, sorry- i see it at the top of the blog post on aegirproject.org
[01:41:42]<ergonlogic[m]>right
[01:41:42]<sensespidey[m]>and you've captured the one i saw in my news feed last night (computerminds)
[01:42:04]<ergonlogic[m]>colan: good point
[01:42:21]<colan>so repost mine & i'll repost yours?
[01:42:37]<ergonlogic[m]>sure
[01:42:58]<colan>stephen's too would be good - so it looks like we have content, if he's okay with it.
[01:43:15]<ergonlogic[m]>colan: you know... it's super easy to add a post in hugo :p
[01:43:48]<ergonlogic[m]>I'll add it, for expediency, then post the diff, to illustrate
[02:10:10]<colan>ergonlogic: ok, thanks. i can jump into that stuff a bit later.

[02:19:02]<ergonlogic[m]>I guess it's appropriate that the image is of a Canadian comedian/actor...
[02:19:30]<ergonlogic[m]>Also, I guess Dries is following you
[02:20:03]<colan>ergonlogic: no, mvc let me know about it; i'm not on that app.
[02:20:22]<ergonlogic[m]>I guess he read Planet then :)
[02:22:17]<colan>indeed.
[02:26:00]<ergonlogic[m]>I renamed our blog section to "Aegir Dispatch (blog)"
[02:26:20]<ergonlogic[m]>because, you know... puns

[02:28:39]<helmo42[m]>ergonlogic: Just watched the full video from your blog, very nice.
[02:37:07]<ergonlogic[m]>helmo42: thanks... a bit long, but I guess that's fair for 10 years of code contributions
[02:37:52]<ergonlogic[m]>I submitted an issue to add our blog to Planet, btw
[02:58:20]<ergonlogic[m]>helmo42: Say, I played around with the settings on our open-collective. Among other things, I bumped up the amounts significantly. I tried adding more tiers, but it didn't work as expected. Anyway, I'd like to see if we can get some substantial ngo/gov/corp sponsorship
[02:58:49]<ergonlogic[m]>I figured there were lots of other ways for individuals to give smaller donations
[02:59:19]<ergonlogic[m]>but I'd like to reach out to the open-collective folks about adding additional monthly tiers at lower levels too
[03:04:27]* joestewart_ is now known as joestewart
[03:52:41]<jonpugh1>ergonlogic[m]: LOVE the blog name!
[03:52:55]<jonpugh1>the source video is awesome
[03:53:07]<ergonlogic[m]>thanks :)
[03:53:50]<jonpugh1>can the blog support code formatting? I'd like to write a detailed post on provision on symfony, PHP snippets are a must.
[03:54:31]<ergonlogic[m]>it shouldn't be hard to add
[03:54:49]<ergonlogic[m]>but I was focused on getting an MVP out for our deadline
[03:55:05]<anarcat>helmo42[m]: i haven't realized how much work you put into aegir since i left. congratulations on such an awesome involvement, it's impressive!
[03:55:28]<ergonlogic[m]>I think it's mostly a matter of installing a pyments lib, or something
[03:55:32]<anarcat>ergonlogic[m]: that video is amazing
[03:56:05]<ergonlogic[m]>thanks :)
[03:56:10]<colan>https://www.drupal.org/project/codefilter works on drupal sites, not sure about this hugo thing.
[03:56:41]<anarcat>wow the timeline
[03:56:45]<ergonlogic[m]>https://gohugo.io/content-management/syntax-highlighting/
[03:58:31]* anarcat wonders how aegir will deal with the containers bandwagon
[03:59:31]<anarcat>or drupal, for that matter
[04:00:27]<ergonlogic[m]>k8s backend for Aegir5
[04:01:36]<anarcat>there may be a space for a k8s GUI
[04:01:43]<anarcat>there are some tools that do this here like kasten and rancher
[04:01:46]<anarcat>but it's in flux
[04:01:59]<anarcat>it definitely "fits" with aegir's goals i feel
[04:02:07]<anarcat>of easy maintenance and upgrades and deployment
[04:02:10]<anarcat>anyways
[04:02:15]<anarcat>gotta run to another talk
[04:02:30]<anarcat>last day!

[04:25:12]<ergonlogic[m]>@freenode_jonpugh[m]:matrix.org: The GitLab CI image for Hugo is one version behind the one need for the new Chroma-based syntax highlighting. Instead we can use the Pygments-based one for now, which should be forward-compatible. I'm testing some config settings, after which I'll push those, and post an example here.
[05:14:40]<ergonlogic[m]>actually, it looks like the new Chroma-based highlighting is available after all.
[05:25:09]<ergonlogic[m]>@freenode_jonpugh[m]:matrix.org: turns out we get syntax highlighting for free out-of-the-box. Just wrap your code in `{{< highlight php >}}` and `{{< /highlight >}}` tags.
[05:26:28]* hefring has joined #aegir
[05:26:35]<ergonlogic[m]>it's a go function
[05:27:03]<anarcat>looks like hell
[05:27:04]<anarcat>:)
[05:27:48]<ergonlogic[m]>apparently we can use code fences too
[05:29:58]<ergonlogic[m]>ok, so with a minor change to our config, we can now just wrap code in `\`\`\`php` and a closing `\`\`\``
[05:30:06]<ergonlogic[m]>nope, that's not right
[05:31:14]<ergonlogic[m]>how do you print 3 backticks?
[05:31:17]<ergonlogic[m]>```
[05:31:18]<ergonlogic[m]>ugh
[05:39:11]<ergonlogic[m]>`` ```php ``
[05:39:14]<ergonlogic[m]>there we go
[05:39:55]<ergonlogic[m]>anarcat: happy now? `` ```php `` and `` ``` `` also work for syntax highlighting
[05:40:35]<ergonlogic[m]>I guess the `php` is still a it of an issue :p
[05:40:43]<ergonlogic[m]>bit*
[06:32:03]<anarcat>happi*er* :)

[08:04:34]* ergonlogic[m] would love feedback on ^^^
[08:21:52]<colan>ergonlogic: will take a look. you sure you don't want to wait until we're on planet to publish that?
[08:22:17]<colan>unless it's easy to change the publish date...
[08:22:37]<ergonlogic[m]>Super easy
[08:23:28]<colan>great. let's remember to do that :)
[08:24:47]<sensespidey[m]>ergonlogic: nice post, i like the general direction you're pointing in, and that section of video you pointed to is great ;)
[08:25:22]<ergonlogic[m]>sensespidey: thanks
[08:26:36]<sensespidey[m]>just read through that architecture doc more thoroughly, too- looks really good. since i haven't actually used aegir recently, it's hard to tell how ambitious it is ;)
[08:26:36]<ergonlogic[m]>colan: that post is more targeted at current Aegir users and the core team, rather than prospective/new users
[08:27:20]<colan>i think it's great, in any case.
[08:27:25]<ergonlogic[m]>so I'm not sure Planet is all that critical
[08:28:04]<colan>linkedin?
[08:28:26]<ergonlogic[m]>Once we've agreed to call Aegir a "SaaS Delivery Framework" (or whatever), then we can start actually positioning it that way
[08:28:41]* ybabel has quit (Quit: ybabel)
[08:28:42]* colan nods
[08:29:32]<jonpugh1>It's a very difficult question to answer, how to position it. I like the term, and I agree that Aegir is a "SAAS Delivery Framework", but I think we are stuck in the same quandry as drupal itself: do we care more about SaaS Builders or Drupal site creators. This affects how we design user and development experience.
[08:30:19]<jonpugh1>"low-end Drupal site builders" and "HA SaaS provider" are two audiences that both get value out of aegir despite having vastly different backgrounds
[08:33:18]<ergonlogic[m]>I've been trying not to bake any such assumptions into Aegir 5. Hence a "framework"
[08:33:57]<ergonlogic[m]>I expect we'll see sub-distros (of maybe just sets of Features) that address more specific use-cases
[08:37:44]<ergonlogic[m]>Drupal is moving towards rich applications and are closer to SaaS than a traditional quasi-static "site"
[08:39:54]<colan>ergonlogic: i see that there's an IRC webchat link in the footer on the new site. would it be possible to add the link for this matrix room? https://riot.im/app/#/room/#drupal-aegir:matrix.org
[08:40:10]<ergonlogic[m]>sure
[08:40:35]<ergonlogic[m]>colan: poit m to a font-awesome icon to use for it, please
[08:40:38]<ergonlogic[m]>"point me"*
[08:42:33]<colan>ergonlogic: how about the one they're using at the bottom of https://about.riot.im/ - should be https://about.riot.im/wp-content/themes/riot/img/tiny-riot.svg ?
[08:43:05]* colan doesn't know much about fonts (that's too front-endy)
[08:44:28]<sensespidey[m]>https://github.com/FortAwesome/Font-Awesome/issues/11270
[08:46:05]<ergonlogic[m]>ok, let's all +1 that issue
[08:46:27]<ergonlogic[m]>I pushed an alternate "comment" icon for now
[08:48:36]<ergonlogic[m]>this one, btw: http://fontawesome.io/icon/comments-o/
[08:49:09]<ergonlogic[m]>gitlab-ci is taking its time on this build though...
