[00:14:04]<Shwele>does aegir grab hostnames domain when creating master?
[00:15:31]<Shwele>Need to create another master so wondered if I can install it and change domain name of hostmaster later on, or is it initially grabbing server hostname?
[01:00:50]<viashimo>Shwele: I believe the default is the hostname of machine, but you can specify it. It can also be changed later but I've found the process to involve a few hurdles
[02:02:39]<colan[m]>Shwele there's an issue somewhere on how to do that. Can't find it right now though as I'm not at my desk.
[02:05:55]<Shwele>Its ok I dont need it right away. Just food for thought in case I needed that, due that client might be late with their hostname domain delivery.

[03:10:29]<jonpugh>I fired up ichinga but when I learned I needed to edit config files I decided to start with statsD/graphite/grafana.
[03:11:30]<jonpugh>This module is a super simple way to pipe aegir stats to a statsd/grafana site

[06:04:47]<helmo42[m]>jonpugh: I'm happy I invested in converting the config to Icinga ... and I have it storing all performance data in graphite.
[06:05:26]<helmo42[m]>Have you seen https://www.drupal.org/project/hosting_monitor ? That might be a good combination with hosting_statsd
[06:08:32]<jonpugh>yeah, I tried it a while back but i didn't want to get distracted
[06:09:21]<jonpugh>I'll take a look again, there's also https://www.drupal.org/project/monitoring
[06:09:54]<jonpugh>maybe I can get an hour of your time someday helping me setup ichinga
[06:10:20]<jonpugh>would love a primer, I need to figure out if I can automate the adding of servers
[06:14:01]<helmo42[m]>I have a small php script that outputs an icinga check for every hosted site which the icinga fetches daily. But besides config files there is also an option to store it all in the db I believe and make changes via an api or web UI.
[06:14:37]<helmo42[m]>Templating an icinga host defenition in Ansible should also be doable
[06:19:15]<jonpugh>Ahh API and web UI, that's what I'm interested in.
[06:19:42]<jonpugh>I'm running it in docker, actually, but I could write a playbook to write the config file to the volume directory
[06:27:33]<colan[m]>The hosting monitor stuff is great; we use it everywhere now. It's essentially a wrapper around Site Audit, but allows for additions and ignores. jonpugh
[06:28:16]<colan[m]>It should probably be in core actually.
[06:38:56]<jonpugh>looks good
[06:39:16]<jonpugh>colan[m]: helmo42[m] I've been working on finally finishing "aegir ansible"
[06:39:36]<jonpugh>it's working really well ... https://www.drupal.org/project/aegir_ansible
[06:39:59]<jonpugh>I'm about to add a "playbook" node type with a YML validated field so I don
[06:40:15]<jonpugh>So I don't have to write new playbooks or roles from scratch for each thing.
[06:40:52]<helmo42[m]>nice
[06:41:14]<jonpugh>I've got geerlingguy.github-users and geerlingguy.security
[06:41:20]<jonpugh>hooked up
[06:43:38]<jonpugh>Once you wire up /etc/ansible/hosts to the special script, the hostmaster provides a remote inventory
[06:44:04]<jonpugh>you can control your whole fleet with no inventory arguments at all...
[06:44:08]<jonpugh>`ansible all --list-hosts`
