[07:59:44]<josepholstad>Hello?
[07:59:44]<hefring>hey
[08:00:21]<josepholstad>I haven't used IRC since at least 21 years, is hefring a bot?
[08:01:26]<josepholstad>Hello?
[08:01:26]<hefring>hey
[08:01:45]<josepholstad>anyone other than a bot able to confirm if this message is visible?
[08:03:35]<josepholstad>I noticed that wikipedia deleted the aegir page , can anyone see this message?
[08:04:05]<josepholstad>I haven't used IRC since at least 21 years, hefring appears to be a bot that says 'hey' when I say 'hello'
[08:19:47]<helmo42[m]>Hi josepholstad
[08:21:00]<josepholstad>Say I've got 200 websites to create using Drupal 9, I have postgresql for a database, I use drush 9.x and hope to use drush 10.x , all 200 sites are to run postgresql and possibly also Aegir. what are the pros and cons of using aegir in this particular case when I also have Open Shift and an existing container deployment setup?
[08:21:55]<josepholstad>Wondering, so do I run all 200 Drupal installs on a multisite setup managed by aegir ? or do I go with 200 containers running their own instance?
[08:22:16]<josepholstad>yes hello Helmo42
[08:22:45]<helmo42[m]>It's a bit sad about wikipedia ... not enough media coverage :(
[08:23:06]<josepholstad>ya the wikipedia I will no longer donate money to them
[08:23:33]<josepholstad>total boycott on wikipedia, luckily the internet archive still has lots of copies of the page
[08:24:22]<josepholstad>I've used Aegir before but with Drupal 6 and Drupal 7, wondering if Aegir is a good option for 200 Drupal 9 installations using multisite. I'm wondering because my team is already set to go with 200 containers running seperately
[08:24:23]<helmo42[m]>200 Aegirs in separate containers would not make sense to me, the power of aegir is more in managing multiple sites on one server and running tasks on those.
[08:25:01]<josepholstad>ya so Aegir does it run on the same host as the 200 multisites?
[08:25:21]<josepholstad>so I would have one container running Aegir with 200 multisites all on the same container?
[08:25:35]<helmo42[m]>yes ... or you can use slave servers to split the load
[08:26:05]<josepholstad>ok, so Aegir would have to have some ssh keys set up on the slave so that it can remotely run commands right?
[08:26:20]<josepholstad>kinda like jenkins I suppose?
[08:26:48]<helmo42[m]>I've not done much in the Drupal9 field yet .. but I think others are e.g. jonpugh
[08:27:08]<josepholstad>ok, so just trying to confirm, so ya 200 multisites on one container is probably doable, would just have to have a lot of threads assigned and lots of ram assigned to the pod (container host)
[08:27:12]<helmo42[m]>yes Aegir uses ssh to tun remote tasks
[08:27:31]<helmo42[m]>ans remote sql connections
[08:27:33]<josepholstad>ok, thanks for this info, so have you done much Drupal 8 on aegir?
[08:28:15]<josepholstad>Drupal 9 being almost the same as 8 pretty much, except for the php minimum requirements being rediculously high and mysql /mariadb versions being very new
[08:28:32]<josepholstad>but ya, I'm more talking postgresql my client wants everything postgresql
[08:28:36]<helmo42[m]>yes I have a number of them running, with various variants in composer workflow
[08:29:10]<josepholstad>ok good to know, so I saw drush 9 mentioned, not sure if this means drush 10 will be needed or not?
[08:29:31]<josepholstad>so aegir it'self is Drupal 7, Drupal 7 needs drush 8.x maximum, and the latest version at that for sure.
[08:29:34]<helmo42[m]>I'm not using postgres myself, so I'm not sure what the status of that is
[08:30:05]<josepholstad>ya, I'd prefer mariadb or mysql , especially in Drupal 7, but I have run postgresql on D7 before
[08:30:28]<josepholstad>I saw some issue commits for Postgresql support on aegir they were back in 2014 so it appears this was built in a long time ago
[08:30:41]<josepholstad>but definately not the normal path
[08:31:53]<josepholstad>Ok, I'm going to be building a prototype aegir setup for this, I saw the docker file the official docker file for aegir, I spun it up but it says file not found when I try to visit the assigned port with http
[08:31:55]<helmo42[m]>ACTION off
[08:32:00]<josepholstad>ok thanks
[08:32:26]<josepholstad>Thanks helmo42 , I'll spend some more time investigating this I appreciate your feedback
